BLACKHAWKS SWEEP IOWA LAKES, CELEBRATE LILLIAN SIMPSON ECLIPSING 1,000 CAREER DIGS

WEST BURLINGTON - Southeastern Community College volleyball earned their first conference win Thursday as they swept Iowa Lakes in 3 sets. Southeastern is now 14-11 (1-4 CONF) on the year.

Southeastern led the entire way Thursday evening, as the match started with an 8-0 run courtesy of Lamecia Schaerrer aces. The Blackhawks did not look back, as they cruised to a 25-9 victory in the first set.

The second set started similar as the Blackhawks jumped out to an early lead. Blackhawk freshman Mckenna Marlow and sophomore Lillian Simpson led the charge with several nice plays in the front row. The Blackhawks continued to pour it on the Lakers and took the second set 25-10.

In between the second and third sets the Blackhawks honored sophomore Lillian Simpson, who passed 1,000 career digs in last Saturday's 3-1 victory over East Central. Lillian has been a dominant force playing all-around for the Blackhawks in her career. Currently she is first nationally in kills with 294, and fourth in dis with 219.

The Lakers showed some life in the third set as they took their first lead of the match. This was short lived as a string of nice plays from the Blackhawks set up a run to close out the match, including several nice kills from Brianna Hernandez and Penelope Johnson. The Blackhawks would win this set, 25-16.

The Blackhawks' next matchup will be against ICCAC newcomer Western Iowa Tech next Wednesday at 7:00PM in Loren Walker Arena.
