Kirkwood Falls Short in Region 11 Tournament Semifinal

Creston, IA- In a highly anticipated matchup at the Region 11 Tournament semifinal, the Kirkwood Eagles clashed with the Iowa Lakes Lakers in a thrilling Sunday evening spectacle. With both teams ranked in the nation's top 15, the stage was set for a showdown.

From the opening tip-off, the Lakers surged ahead, building a commanding 52-38 lead by halftime. Despite facing a formidable deficit, the Eagles refused to give in. They launched a relentless comeback bid in the second half, narrowing the margin with each possession.

The Eagles rallied to within a single point, trailing 66-67, sending a surge of excitement rippling through the arena. Spearheaded by Traijan Sain's stellar performance, who led the team with an impressive 27 points, the Eagles showcased their unwavering determination to claw their way back into contention.

Zach Erwin emerged as a dominant force on the court, contributing 17 points and hauling in eight crucial rebounds, while Ayouba Berthe bolstered the team's efforts with 16 points and five rebounds of his own.

However, despite their valiant efforts, the Eagles ultimately fell short, unable to close the gap, losing by a score of 85-81. A significant factor in the game's outcome was the discrepancy in three-point shooting, with Iowa Lakes capitalizing on their long-range accuracy, converting 9 of 18 attempts from beyond the arc.
