Knights split twin bill at McCook invite

McCook – The North Platte Community College volleyball team won a game and dropped another in the final day of a tournament in McCook Saturday.

The Knights started play by beating Iowa Lakes Community College 3-1. The final scores were: 22-25, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-20.

Vanessa Wood and Morgan Ramsey each had 16 kills in the match followed by Tyrah Woods with 15.

Tessa Metschke served up six aces and went for 11 digs. Whitney Chintala and Amauri Browning had 19 digs apiece.

AnnaLise Glosson logged 25 assists. Avah Steggall recorded another 15.

"We started the day off slow," said NPCC Head Volleyball Coach Alexa McCall. "We should have done a better job controlling the game against Iowa Lakes. They played scrappy defense, and we didn't respond well at the beginning. I thought we got ourselves out by doing a good job at the serving line."

The Knights then took on Colby Community College, falling in five sets: 25-22, 24-26, 27-25, 15-25 and 10-25.

Ramsey came through with 16 kills and three blocks in that match. Wood added 10 more kills, and Woods contributed nine.

Chintala and Metschke had 20 and 18 digs, respectively, while Steggall collected 19 assists, and Glosson tallied 18 more.

"We played really tough volleyball against Colby," McCall said. "I thought we made some good adjustments and pushed them until the end. We just ran out of steam physically and mentally."

The scores bring the Knights to 5-4 on the season.

They will head to Hastings Monday to battle Hastings College JV in a match beginning at 6 p.m.

The Knights return home Wednesday for a game against McCook Community College at 7 p.m. That night will be Camper Night. All kids who attended a NPCC summer camp, plus one parent, will be admitted free if the children wear their camp t-shirts.
