Matheny lifts DMACC volleyball team past ILCC, 3-0

  • Bears close out home season with an 11-2 record

 

Sophomore Coryl Matheny of Glenwood had 10 kills and hit .833 to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) October 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Set scores were 25-11, 25-11, 25-7 as DMACC improved to 23-7 overall and 9-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The match was the last of the season inside the DMACC gymnasium and the Bears ran their home record to 11-2.

 

Matheny's hitting percentage came from 12 attacks with no hitting errors. Sophomore Monica Mirembe of Ankeny added 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage and sophomore Kylie Henry of Urbana finished with four kills and a .667 hitting percentage. As a team, the Bears hit .433 with 29 kills from 60 attacks and  just three hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Emma Flathers of Treynor topped the Bears in assists with 22 and sophomore Maddie Dunham of Nevada contributed six ace serves. Sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll led DMACC in digs with 13 and Mirembe had five blocks, including four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team, ranked 12th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) will play in the Triton Volleyball Invitational Oct. 20 and 21 at Fort Dodge. The Bears will face Metropolitan Community College (MCC) and Neosho County Community College (NCCC) on Oct. 20 and will play Cowley County Community College (CCCC) on Oct. 21. NCCC is ranked 17th in the NJCAA Division II poll and CCCC is ranked second.
