Iowa Lakes Baseball Opens Season at Fort Scott

Iowa Lakes Baseball Opens Season at Fort Scott

The Iowa Lakes Baseball team opens their season this weekend at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, KS.

Head Coach Danny Acosta is looking to improve this season with the goal to surpass last year's win total.  Defense will be an emphasis this year and a big key will be to execute while under pressure.  Pitching should be a strength this year with strong pitchers returning and some new starting pitchers looking to have an impact.  The Lakers lost some bats from last year but have some new players that should be able to have an impact right away.

Kellen Cameron, Bryan Mojica, Akxel Soto, and Matt Torresan will be key leaders for the Lakers.  Cameron and Mojica are returning pitchers with a lot of experience.  Soto has improved greatly on the defensive end and will be the leader in the infield.  Torresan adds a great deal of power to the line up and Coach Acosta is hopeful to see him perform.

Newcomers looking to make an impact are Diego Gonzalez, Carter Snyder, and Alex Ramirez.  Gonzalez is a young starting pitcher who has shown to have what it takes to pitch in the conference.  Snyder is an ELC graduate and performed well in the fall.  He will be both catching and pitching for the Lakers this season.  Ramirez brings a great deal of experience and a high baseball IQ.  He will be playing 3B as well as pitching.

A big goal for the Lakers this season will be to make it to the postseason.  Head Coach Acosta said, "We just have to execute and I believe this team can get there and beyond."

The Lakers' home opener is scheduled for Saturday, March 18th vs Century College.
