Lakers Host NIACC in Conference Home Opener

Iowa Lakes Basketball will host North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Trojans on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 7:30 PM. 

The Men's Basketball team fell to ICCAC opponent Ellsworth, 84-80, to open up conference play.  The Lakers were led by Dennis Joiner who scored 26 points.  He was 10 of 15 from the field and 6 of 9 from the 3-point line.  Tywon Bressler Jr. and Cody Cox contributed 14 and 12 points.  Kyle Beisch scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Lakers.  Coach Larson is looking to move on from Ellsworth and focus his attention on NIACC, "We are excited to play another conference game after a disappointing loss at Ellsworth." 

Conference opponent Ellsworth is 11-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference entering Wednesday's match up against Iowa Lakes.  According to Coach Larson, "The Trojans like to spread you out and attack the rim or kick to shooters."  NIACC is led by #11, Tim Trousell, #3 Ben Moss, and #4 Nick Wurm.  Tim Trousell is averaging 12.9 PPG and 8.6 RPG.  Guards, Ben Moss and Nick Wurm, are contributing 12.5 PPG and 10.4 PPG respectively.  When asked about the preparation against NIACC's offense, Coach Larson stated, "Guys have worked hard in practice in order to be ready to play. NIACC has a good team with numerous players who can score it." 

Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball will tip off against NIACC at 5:30 PM.  They are coming off an impressive win against Ellsworth Community College, 76-72 to begin conference play.  Sophomore Lauryn Smith led the Lakers against Ellsworth with 17 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal.  Freshmen Mia Wassink and Lemia Ntor-Ue contributed 14 points each with 6 and 12 rebounds respectively.
