Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball Face #1 Southwestern

Iowa Lakes Basketball will host Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Spartans on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM.  

The Men's Basketball team are on a three game win streak, including victories against two conference opponents.  The Lakers defeated NIACC at home, 100-78.  This past Wednesday, the Lakers were victorious against Iowa Central in Fort Dodge, 92-61, to move to 2-1 in conference play.

Kyle Beisch's effort against NIACC and Dakota County this past week earned him ICCAC Conference player of the week and NJCAA DII National Player of the Week.  Against NIACC, Kyle finished with 25 points.  At Dakota County, Kyle scored a season high 33 points while converting 6 3-pointers out of 11 attempts.  Rounding off the 3 game win streak, Beisch contributed 21 points at Iowa Central. 

The Lakers have three other players averaging more than 10 points per game (PPG).  Sophomore Cody Cox and Mitch Keller are averaging 14.9 and 11.5 PPG respectively.  Dennis Joiner is contributing 11.9 PPG.  The Lakers are averaging 91.5 PPG this season.

Conference opponent Southwestern is 20-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference entering Saturday's match up against Iowa Lakes.  They are ranked #1 in NJCAA DII.  The Spartans are led by previous ICCAC player of the week Jordan Johnson.  Johnson is averaging 15.3 PPG and shooting 53.5% from the 3-point line.  Similar to Iowa Lakes, Southwestern has 3 other players averaging more than 10 PPG.  Brodric Thomas, KeShawn Wilson, and Jamil Maddred are averaging 14.5, 11.9, and 11.0 PPG this season.  Southwestern Spartans are averaging 95.3 PPG.

Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball will tip off against SWCC at 1:00 PM.  Sophomore Lauryn Smith is leading the Lakers with 11.9 PPG.  Freshman Mia Wassink is averaging 11.7 PPG and 8.6 rebound per game (RPG).  They look to get back on track with a win against conference opponent Southwestern.
