Conference Home Opener Against Kirkwood

Estherville, Iowa – Friday, January 18, 2018

Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball will host conference opponent Kirkwood Eagles at home on Saturday, January 20th at 3 PM.  The Lakers are currently 11-6 overall and 1-1 in conference.  The Lakers are coming off a road conference win against the 10th ranked DMACC Bears on Wednesday.

Kyle Beisch led the Lakers in scoring with 34 points.  He shot 12-18 from the field and 5-7 from the 3-point line.  Jacob Rau added 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for the Lakers. Streeter McIlravy and Dennis Joiner scored 13 and 12 points to finish the night.

The Lakers have 5 players averaging more than 10 points per game this season.  Kyle Beisch is leading the Lakers with 17.8 points per game while shoot 47% from the arc.  Freshmen Nick Wagner, Solomon Clayton, and Jacob Rau are making solid contributions with 16.2, 11.6, and 10.7 points per game.  Streeter McIlravy is averaging 10.4 points per game and shooting 42% from 3-point land.

Kirkwood (12-4, 2-0) is ranked 13th in the nation.  Coach Larson stated, "Kirkwood has a rich basketball tradition and it is no different this year. They have good players and are well coached."  Returning sophomore guard, Chris King, is averaging 17 point per game while freshmen Tajen Ross and Doug Wilson are both scoring 11.6 points per game so far. 

Last season the Lakers were 1-2 against the Eagles.  Both teams won at home.  Coach Larson said, "Playing at home is an advantage for us because our home crowd brings a lot of energy to our games. We are excited for this game and it should be an exciting game for our fans."

Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball will also tip off against Kirkwood on Saturday, January 20th at 1 PM.  The Eagles are ranked 2nd in the nation.  The Lakers won 4 out of their last 5 games.
