6 Men's Basketball Players Named All-Region

Estherville, Iowa – Tuesday, March 23, 2018

Six players from the 2017 – 2018 Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team were honored by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) as being all region performers.  Iowa Lakes finished the year at 23 – 9 overall, 9 – 3 in the ICCAC (2nd) while being ranked 19th in the National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) final basketball poll.

Kyle Beisch

So – Fort Dodge, IA

1st Team All-Region XI 

Sophomore guard, Kyle Beisch, was voted onto the All-Region XI 1st team.  Kyle led the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game, grabbing 4.5 rebounds per game, giving 2.5 assists per game.  He shot 47.4% from the field, 40.% from the 3 point arc, and 76.6% from the free throw line.  Kyle scored in double figures in 26 our of 32 games.  Kyle was twice named ICCAC player of the week and finished his career with 992 points.  Kyle was 1st team All Region as a Freshman.

Coach Troy Larson had these comments to say about Kyle.  "Kyle had a really good two year career at Iowa Lakes.  Worked exceptionally hard on his game and was a team leader.  Kyle can really shoot the ball and is a winner.  Glad to get the opportunity to coach him and will miss him next year."

Dennis Joiner

So – Minneapolis, MN

1st  Team All-Region XI

Dennis Joiner was 3rd on the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game.  He averaged 4.8 rebounds and shot 47% from the field.  Dennis scored in double figures 17 times during the season and averaged 16.5 points per game over the last 10 games.  Dennis finished his career with 746 career points.  Dennis was twice named ICCAC player of the week.  Dennis was 2nd Team All Region as a Freshman.

Coach Larson stated, "Dennis improved over his two years at Iowa Lakes.  Became a solid defender and always put the team first.  Has the ability to really score the basketball and made big shots."

Streeter McIlravy

So – Solon, IA

2nd Team All-Region XI

Streeter McIlravy averaged 9 points per game and was consistent all year.  He shot 48% from the fieldand 50% from the 3 during the conference season.  Streeter also shot 91.7% from the free throw line leading the NJCAA in Free Throw percentage.  Streeter scored 571 career points.

"Streeter always put the team first and sacrificed personal accomplishments for the good of the team.  Worked extremely hard on his game and improved tremendously during his time at Iowa Lakes.  Streeter is a very good college basketball and will be a good player at the 4 year level." Commented Coach Larson.

Christian Kyles

Fr – Sioux City, IA

Honorable Mention All-Region XI

Christian Kyles averaged 9.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4 assists per game while shooting 53% from the field and 40% from the 3 during ICCAC play. He was named ICCAC player of the week after picking up his first career triple double against Iowa Central scoring 14 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists.

"Christian really improved throughout the course of the year.  He became one of our best perimeter defenders and consistent offensive players.  Looking forward to seeing his improvement this summer and next year." Said Coach Larson.

Solomon Clayton

Fr – Ft. Dodge, IA

All-Region Honorable Mention

Solomon Clayton averaged 10.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.  He shot 57% from the field. Solomon collected 5 double doubles on the year.  Solomon was 3rd in the ICCAC in field goal % and 4th in rebounding.

Coach Larson explains the reasons why Solomon had a good freshman season "High basketball IQ and defended well.  Very smart basketball player who puts himself in the right spots.  Willing and able to do the little things that allow teams to be successful.

Nick Wagner

Fr – Galesville, WI

All-Region Honorable Mention

Nick Wagner averaged 16.1 points per game while shooting 44% from the field and shooting 39.5% from the 3, and 86.1% from the free throw line.  Nick scored in double figures 26 out of 32 games.

Coach Larson had the following to say about Nick:  "Tremendously talented offensive player.  Has the ability to shoot the ball from deep and can create his own shot.  Works exceptionally hard on his game.  Played better as the year went on which is how you want a player to improve."

Iowa Lakes is coached by Troy Larson who just finished his 11 year at the college.  He has an overall record of 231 wins and 117 loses for a winning percentage of 66.6%.  Coach Larson lead the Lakers to the national tournament in 2013 as well as regional championship game appearances in 2013, 2014, and 2016.  Additionally the Lakers have won the ICCAC regular season championship in 2013 and 2016.
