Lakers named National Team of the week for the 2nd time this season

For the second time this year the Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team has been named The National Association of Basketball Coaches college basketball team of the week at the NJCAA/two-year school level. The honor is for games played February 11-17th.

The Lakers went 2-0 on the week to improve to 18-8 on the season and 8-3 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play. The first action of the week saw them defeat Des Moines Area Community College 112-106 in triple overtime on Wednesday February 13th in Estherville. Kevin Jennings led the way for the Lakers in this contest with 36 points.

The Lakers would then travel to Cedar Rapids to take on 4th Ranked Kirkwood. The Lakers came out strong and enjoyed a 13-point lead at half time and would withstand a furious comeback by Kirkwood but would end up holding the Eagles off and win 82-75.  Jennings would also lead the Lakers in the game with 22 points.

Coach Larson had this to say about his team after the 2-0 week. "Our guys worked hard and prepared this week for both these teams, and I couldn't be prouder of them."

Things don't get any easier for the Lakers the remainder of the week. They will host NJCAA 8th ranked NIACC on Thursday and will travel to Creston, IA on Saturday to take on defending ICCAC tournament champion and 3rd place NJCAA tournament finisher Southwestern. Tips for those game will be at 7:30 pm and 3 pm respectively.
