4 Lakers Earn All Region

Estherville, Iowa – Tuesday, March 12, 2019

Four players from the 2018 – 2019 Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team were honored by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) as being all region performers.  Iowa Lakes finished the year at 22 – 10 overall, 10 – 4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) which was a third-place finish.

Kevin Jennings

FR – Grand Prairie, TX

1st Team All-Region XI 

Freshmen guard, Kevin Jennings, was voted onto the All-Region XI 1st team.  Kevin led the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game, grabbing 2.3 rebounds per game, and 3.3 assists per game.  He shot 51.6% from the field, 42.4. % from the 3-point arc, and 65.3% from the free throw line.  Kevin scored in double figures in 27 of 32 games.  Kevin was named ICCAC player of the week for the week of February 11th-17th.

Coach Troy Larson had these comments to say about Kevin.  "KJ had a really good freshmen year at Iowa Lakes and is a really good scorer.  He can really shoot it and is very quick.  He is unique in that he has good rim attack game and can pull-up.  Anxious to see how much better he can get defensively and improve his rebounding heading into next season."

Solomon Clayton

So – Fort Dodge, IA

1st Team All-Region XI

Sophomore forward, Solomon Clayton, was voted onto the All-Region XI 1st team.  Solomon led the team in rebounding with 8.5 rebounds per game, while scoring 14.2 points per game, giving 1.6 assists per game.  He also led the team in field goal percentage shooting 60.4% from the field.  Solomon scored in double figures in 26 of 32 games this season and accumulated 15 double doubles in his career.  Solomon was named ICCAC player of the week for the week of February 25-March 3. He finished his career with 779 points and 489 rebounds.  Solomon was Honorable Mention All-Region as a Freshman.

Coach Larson had this say about Solomon's career, "He has a high basketball IQ and defends well.  He worked very hard in the weight room which allowed his body to do the little things that allow teams to be successful. He is one of the smartest basketball players I have coached at Iowa Lakes.  He was the heart and soul of this year's team.  He will be very good at the next level.  Looking forward to following his career.

Equan Ards

So – Milwaukee, WI

Honorable Mention All-Region XI

After transferring from Butler Community College, the previous year where he averaged 9.9 points per game and shot 53% from the floor, Equan Ards averaged 14.3 points per game while shooting 56.7% from the floor while at Iowa Lakes.  Equan also grabbed 4.8 rebounds per game. 

"Equan is a great athlete and got better as the year went on.  One of the best athletes in the region." Commented Coach Larson.

Boston Grimes

Fr – Johnston, IA

Honorable Mention All-Region XI

Boston averaged 9.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 50.7% from the field and 41.1% from the 3. He scored his career high 22 at NIACC on January 31st. He was 7 of 12 from the floor and 6 of 10 from 3 in that game. 

Boston was our toughest kid all year. Very good defender.  I am looking forward to seeing his improvement in the weight room and his attack game going into next season." Said Coach Larson.

Iowa Lakes is coached by Troy Larson who just finished his 12th year at the college.  He has an overall record of 253 wins and 127 loses for a winning percentage of 66.6%.  Coach Larson lead the Lakers to the national tournament in 2013 as well as regional championship game appearances in 2013, 2014, and 2016.  Additionally, the Lakers have won the ICCAC regular season championship in 2013 and 2016.
