Brookens named ICCAC player of the week

Iowa Lakes Sophomore Point Guard Justin Brookens of Milwaukee, WI earned Iowa Community College Conference Athlete of the Week for his efforts the week of November 11th-17th.

For the week of November 11th, the Lakers would travel to Marshalltown to take part in the Emerson Classic. In their first competition, they would take on 5-0 NJCAA Division 1 opponent Independence Community College. Brookens would lead the Lakers to a 93-87 victory by scoring 19 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists and stealing the ball 4 times. I

In their final contest of the Emerson Classic, they would take NJCAA Division, 2 opponent, John Wood Community College. John Wood is a frequent NJCAA National Tournament participant. Brookens who had 2 points at the half found himself bringing the Lakers back from a 14-point deficit with 8 minutes to play. Over the final 8 minutes of the game Brookens would score 21 points to finish with 31.  Brookens would knock down 8 three-point attempts in the contest while dishing out 7 assists and recording 3 steals.

Coach Larson had this to say about Brookens, "Justin is tough and went into what I would call video game mode and made play after play down the stretch to help his team win this weekend."

The Laker's next competition will be against Minnesota West on Saturday, November 23rd with a tip time set for 3 pm.
