Baker's 67 pushes Lakers into tie for lead after day 1

Iowa Lakes sophomore Jacob Baker put on a ball striking clinic at the Iowa Central Invitational at Otter Creek Golf Course Saturday afternoon. At one point Baker hit fourteen consecutive greens in regulation, with sixteen total, leading him to six birdies and a round of four under par 67 and a tie for the individual top spot after day one.

The Lakers saw a good deal of team success posting a score of six over par 290, which was good enough for a tie for the lead with Iowa Central Community College. Along with Baker's four under par 67, the Lakers posted scores of 73, 74, and 76 by Matt Bennett, Jordan Henry, and Connor Anderson respectively. The two other Lakers in competition were Collin Kemper with an 80 and Jack Brashear with an 84.

Coach Weber had this to say after round one today. "After our last tournament in Missouri our guys knew that they had some work to do to get where they wanted to be. We went over some stats and found some areas of weakness and the guys put in a lot of work this week. I think it was this good week of practice that led to the type of scores that I know this team can post. Jacob was putting on quite the show hitting sixteen greens in regulation today, and his 67 was well deserved and fun to watch. It was great to see Jordan, Connor, and Collin play well and post some good scores. Matt got a bit frustrated, which is hard for most to say about a 73, but I'm excited to see how he answers tomorrow. This being Jack's first competitive round of the spring, I think he will bounce back tomorrow with a good score. The guys want to go and win this tournament and will need to play well to outscore Iowa Central who also shot a 290 today. It should be a good day of golf tomorrow."

The Lakers will look to keep up the momentum and bring home a team victory tomorrow with tee times starting at 9:00 AM.
