Baker Claims Individual Title - Lakers Fall to 3rd

Lakers slip to 3rd after weather shortened Day 2

The Iowa Lakes men's golf team came across more wet weather at day two of the Iowa Central Invitational at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa. After getting their last tournament shortened to one round, this weekend's tournament was shortened to one and a half with only nine holes being played for the second round.

Jacob Baker continued his excellent ball striking hitting all nine greens in regulation en route to a one under par 35 securing him the individual medalist honors with a five under par 102. For the 27 hole tournament, Baker hit an incredible 25 greens in regulation. The rest of the Lakers had a tough time keeping the momentum that they had built up with a six over par 290 from day one posting a team score of 157 for day two and a two day total of 447, falling eight shots short of Iowa Central's 439.

Jordan Henry who posted a 39 for a two day 113. Connor Anderson posted a day two 40 and a two day total of 116. Matt Bennett carded a day two 43 to post a two day score of 116. Jack Brashear posted a 43 and a total of 127. Collin Kemper posted a 38 to card a two day total of 118 as an individual.

"It was a tough day to try and get mentally focused and prepared to play competitive golf. It wasn't certainty that we would even be able to get the round in today and our guys just were not able to get back into the right mind set to match their focus from day one. Golf is very much a mental sport and if you don't get completely focused and prepared for the round, it is going to be a very long day." said Coach Weber. "I was very proud of the way Jacob came to play and finished the tournament while showing his true potential and I hope it catapults him forward for the rest of the year. I was also very impressed with Collin this weekend. He has put in a lot of work and it is starting to show with some good scores. The guys did a lot of good things and we will definitely have some positive things to move forward with but they also some things to focus on, mostly with the mental approach and preparation. This team has the pieces to make this a very fun spring and I am looking forward to every minute."

The Iowa Lakes golf team continues their season on Monday April 10th and Tuesday April 11th in Indianola, Iowa at the Simpson Spring Invite.
