Lakers Wrap Up Regular Season by Taking Second in Fort Dodge

The Iowa Lake's men's golf team was back in action today in Fort Dodge, Iowa for the Iowa Central Spring Invitational. The Lakers were looking to ride some momentum from their previous week victory in Mason City but ran into an even hotter team in Iowa Central who posted a victorius team score of 305 to win their third straight event with Iowa Lakes coming in second with a 311.

The Lakers were led by sophomore Matt Bennett who posted a one over par 72 and took the individual medalist honors by one shot over Iowa Central's Wes Butenbach. Other team scores were Jacob Baker with a 78, Connor Anderson with an 80, Jack Brashear with an 81, and Jordan Henry with an 82. Collin Kemper posted an 88 as an individual score.

"The weather did not look promising with the original forecast calling for rain and wind, but I think we were all suprised when the rain only lasted for a few minutes at the beginning of the round and we were able to get the round in without any delays or bad weather." said Coach Weber. "The guys fought hard on a good golf course and grinded out second place. I think that everyone felt that they left a few shots out on the course and there is room for improvement before our regional tournament in a couple weeks. We will work hard the next ten days and we will be ready for Veenker and the regional tournament. It's been a solid spring but we still have some unfinished business to attend to. It will be a fun week for our sophomores as we wrap up the spring regular season and focus on obtaining our team goal of qualifying for the National Tournmanent in Mesa."

The Laker men wrap up their regular season and will look to continue their push of qualifying for the DII NJCAA National Tournament at the Region 11 Tournament in Ames, Iowa at Veenker Memorial Golf Course on May 6th and 7th.
