Lakers in 2nd after Round 1 at the NJCAA Region XI Tournament

The Iowa Lakes men's golf team fired a team score of 312 at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames, Iowa to put them in second place behind Kirkwood Community College who shot a 302. Seven shots behind with team scores of 319 are Iowa Central Community College and Des Moines Area Community College.

Jordan Henry led the pace for the Lakers with a three over par 75 which was also good enough to put him into a tie for fourth overall individually for the tournament and only two back of the leader. Not far behind and also cracking the top ten individually was Connor Anderson with a 78 (7th) and Matt Bennett with a 79(T-8th) as well as Jacob Baker with an 80(T-10th). Jack Brashear fired a non counting score 83(T-18th).

Coach Weber had this to say about his teams performance; "The course was playing much tougher than it had for our practice rounds. Today was all about keeping your head down, grinding it out, and not putting up large numbers because you can always come back from a bogey here and there. I think the guys did an incredible job today in gutting out their scores. I preached to them all week that you can't win a tournament on the first day, but you certainly can fall out of contention. The guys grinded this round out and are in a great spot heading into the second day where anything can happen."

The top three teams and the next two non team qualifying individuals from the regional tournament qualify to play in the National NJCAA DII Tournament which is held May 23rd-26th in Mesa, Arizona at the Longbow Golf Club. Round two of the regional tournament begins for the Lakers at 9:50 AM.
