The Iowa Lakes men's and women's golf teams were back in action in Mason City, IA at the Mason City Country Club for the NIACC Fall Invite on Friday. The men were not able to get anything going and finished last in a five team field with a score of 318. The women came away with a second place finish with a 354. Leading the way for the men was freshman Sam Miller with a 75 and a T-6 finish. Gretchen Hofstad led the women with an 85 and a 3rd place finish.

Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber had this to say about his teams performace after the round: "The women were able to improve from our first tournament earlier this week and shave twenty strokes, which is a very positive sign. It's good to see our freshman show progression and enthusiam after a rough outing at Fort Dodge on Tuesday. Big shout out to Somer Hudson with a new personal best and breaking 90 for the first time in competitive play. She is working hard each week and it's good to see her get rewarded."

Isabella Santistevan posted 88, Somer Hudson 89, and Kelly Winter psoted 92 to round out counting scores for the women. Abby Gaudian came in with 95, Savannah Wolff with 99, and Heidi Malm with a 108 to finish out scores.

"It was good to see everybody find some improvement from the last tournament. This group has a ton of potential, just going to take some hard work and learning each day."

The Laker men were led by Sam Miller's 75 and Scott Flatebo's 78. Blake Johnson posted 81 and Jake Hemann an 85 to finish out the team score. Ben Tibken carded an 87.

"Today was a struggle top to bottom for the guys. Nobody was able to get anything going and come in with a good score. We have some work to do with this all freshman squad, but I am confident they will continue to work hard and grow from every experience and get better for the next day. This is going to be a learning season, but these guys have the swing talent to get it done."

The Iowa Lakes men and women will look to rebound at their home event on Tuesday, September 22nd at Brooks Golf Club in a triangular with NIACC and Iowa Central.
