Lakers Split at Quad Cup

The Iowa Lakes men's team traveled to Ames, Iowa to defend their Quad Cup title at Coldwater Golf Links on Sunday. Unfortunately, history had other plans as the Lakers would lose their first match to Iowa Central Community College, but rebound with a win over North Iowa Area Community College in the consolation match.

"The Quad Cup has grown into a favorite for our programs and is really helping to build some great rivalries within our conference" said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber. "Our roster in built of mostly freshman, so the history from last year was not quite fully there, but the players enjoyed the two-person match play format and we had a lot of fun. Hopefully next year we can come back and get our Quad Cup trophy back."

Iowa Lakes was paired up with Iowa Central in the first match. Unfortunately, the Lakers would not win a single match and were defeated three points to one with the last two matches being conceded as draws and a half point each. The afternoon match up with NIACC went at a different tune, as the Lakers would win three matches outright and take the consolation victory, three points to one.

"This is a great event that we have going and it really lets the players compete in a different format and get their competitive juices flowing. I think we as coaches will develop a little different format moving forward to increase the size of the event and create even more drama. Either way, we will be ready next year to come back and take back the Quad Cup."

The Iowa Lakes men's team will look to cap off their fall campaign with a trip down to Iowa City on Thursday, October 15th at Finkbine Golf course, the home of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.
