The Iowa Lakes men's golf team got back into action Friday for the first round of the Iowa Central Spring Invite at the Fort Dodge Country Club. In the large and highly competitive field, Iowa Lakes finds themselves sitting in 9th place with a team score of 320. Freshman Jake Hemann was the lone bright spot for the Lakers posting a three over 74, putting him four shots off the lead and in a tie for 11th place in the 71 player field. Iowa Central is leading the tournament with a round of 282.

"Jake played well today. When he is confident in what he is doing, he can be a very consistent and solid player" said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber. "He is an incredible ball striker, he just needed a few putts to fall to really make his round stand out. In time those putts will fall, and he will start to post some very low scores."

The remainder of the team had trouble finding their footing, with Sam Miller, Ben Tibken, and Blake Johnson all posting a score of 82. Dawson Weber carded an 83.

"Nobody could really get anything going today. We have shown bits and pieces of playing extended stretches of good golf, but today was just out of rhythm and a frustrating day all around. Hopefully the guys can bounce back tomorrow and find a way to climb up this leaderboard. They are definitely capable of it, it's just a matter of them having the right mindset and getting it done." added Coach Weber.

The second round of the Iowa Central Spring Invite is set to start with a 9:00am shotgun start at the Fort Dodge Country Club tomorrow morning.
