Iowa Lakes Stumbles at BCU Invite

The Iowa Lakes men's golf team traveled to Dakota Dunes, South Dakota to compete in the Briar Cliff University Spring Invitational earlier this week. The Lakers were unable to capitalize at a scoreable course and finished sixth in a seven team, 36-hole, one day event with scores of 308 and 316. Leading the way for the Lakers was sophomore Dawson Weber who posted rounds of 71 and 79, finishing in a t-18 in the 54 player field. The University of Jamestown would take home the team title with a two-round total of 583.

"Today was just simply not our best day." Said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber. "We had a chance to build some momentum throughout the rounds, but just could not get in the right state of mind to play confidently and it showed in our scores. Dawson did a great job round one by posting a number, but we didn't get much else going the rest of the day."

Freshman Jake Hemann came in with two rounds in the 70's (79-76) with a two round total of 155 and a 26th place finish. Ben Tibken posted 78-83, Blake Johnson 80-81, and Sam Miller 85-80.

"Hopefully today was a good learning day. We are a young group with a lot to learn in a short amount of time, so we will look at the positives of today and keep moving forward. We have regionals next weekend, so moving past today will be very important if we want to play well down at Blue Top Ridge next week."

The Lakers will cap off their spring campaign with ther 54-hole Region XI Championship on May 1-2 at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside, IA.
