On Friday September 1st your Lakers took on conference opponent Indian Hills Community College. This contest was a non-conference meeting as it was part of the first annual Wells Fargo Cup in Ottumwa, Iowa.

The Indian Hills Warriors opened up the game in the 14th minute off of a header from Rodrigo Paredes that went into the back of the net. Akean Shackleford ended the game with a hat trick scoring in the 27th, 56th, and 86th minute.

The Lakers scored their only goal in the 26th minute of the game that came from Abel Gebrekiros which was assisted by James Paylor. The Lakers had their chances early in the game but just didn't finish them. The game ended 4-1.

"You have to give a lot of credit to Indian Hills and their coaching staff on the style they implemented. You can see the players have bought into the philosophy and that made it a tough game at this stage of the season. I felt that we created enough chances to score three or four goals but conceded goals at vital times during the game.  There is no doubt we have the quality to be successful come the end of the season but we need to sort many of our defensive problems out early," said Coach Ben MacRae.

On Saturday September 2nd the Lakers got back on the Win Column beating Johnson County Community College with a score of 5-2. The Lakers had five different goal scorers for each of the goals.

The Lakers went up 1-0 in the 4th minute of the game off of an own goal from Johnson County defender. In the 47th minute Charlie Hackshall made it 2-0 off an assist from Jack Gibson.

Johnson County answered in the 52nd minute of the game from a goal by Mooah Joel Hemos.  Five minutes later the Lakers answered with their third goal of the game from Craig Barker which was assisted by Charlie Hackshall

Freshmen Bryan Arellano added the fourth for the Lakers in the 71st minute off of Hackshall's 2nd assist of the game. Soon after that Freshmen Julio Rangel dribbled past three defenders in the 86th minute and added the fifth and final goal for the Lakers.  In the 87th minute Johnson County added their second goal by Preston Mboob.

"I am really happy with the goals that we scored today, but again we conceded two very soft goals. We need to shore up the defense and work on our positioning and shape at the back. The lads that came in today did very well and showed that we have some great depth in our squad. This will be key as we reach the middle to end of the season, I am sure you will see a big improvement as we go into next weeks' game against Central Community College out of Columbus, NE and against Northeast Nebraska Community College out of Norfolk, NE," Coach Ben MacRae said.

The Lakers will travel to Columbus, NE to take on Central Community College on Wednesday September 6th and will return home to Spencer, Iowa on Saturday September 9th to take on Northeast Nebraska Community College.
