Lakers lose Conference opener 3-2 to Northeast Community College

The Lakers outshot Northeast CC 21 to 6 throughout the whole game. There are days where you can get unlucky, but today the Lakers were just not clinical enough in front of goal.

Rian Marques converted on a penalty kick early in the game to put the Lakers up 1-0.  The Hawks had goals from Tiago Da Costa and Anthony Kosch to give them the lead 2-1.  Levi Heholt scored the second goal for the Lakers to tie the game 2-2. Late in the game Sebastian Besores hit the game winner to give the Hawks the victory 3-2.

"Today, we were just not good enough. Although we had 21 shots on goal to their 6, you have to put your chances away in this league. We gave the ball away at the back to easily and were punished for it. We now have an uphill challenge to get ourselves back in contention for the conference. We will look at video and see if we can take some positives out of the game. I'm going to learn a lot about the boys come Wednesday as we will see if they can rebound from this disappointing loss," said Coach Ben MacRae.

The Lakers will next travel to NIACC on Wednesday September 13th for a non-conference meeting.
