Lakers Pick-up Two Wins On The Weekend

The Lakers were back in action on Friday, September 29th as they traveled to Davenport, Iowa to take on Illinois Central Community College in a non-conference meeting.

Jose Mendez opened up the score line in the 13th minute with a shot outside of the 18-yard box that found the back of the net. The Lakers played some good futbol in the first-half but got better as the game went on.

In the 47th minute of the game Charlie Hackshall put the Lakers ahead 2-0. Six minutes later in the 53rd minute Illinois Central found the back of the net and got back into the game. Abel Gebrekiros put the game to sleep in the 72nd minute after beating a defender and slotting it passed the goalkeeper.

 "We had an excellent win today against Illinois Central. There is no doubt that they are a quality team, but at times we played some outstanding futbol and in the end deserved the result," said Coach Ben MacRae.  

On Saturday, September 30th The Lakers returned to conference play against Scott Community College at the Eagle's home.

The Lakers had a slow start to the game as they trailed 1-0 in the first minutes of the game. The Lakers started to pick things up in the 18th minute, which lead to their 8-2 victory.

Craig Barker registered a hat-trick on the day, while Levi Heholt found the back of the net twice. Charlie Hackshall, Jack Gibson, and Jose Mendez each added a goal for the Lakers.

  "Scott made it very difficult for us today and scored two excellent goals. It was another slow start and we have to figure out a way of beginning the game better. In the end, our quality showed through and we had some tremendous build up play. As a team, it's been a good weekend, but we have to keep the winning streak going and move our focus to Wednesday's non-conference match-up against Northeast," said Coach Ben MacRae.  

The Lakers will next travel on Wednesday, October 4th to Norfolk, NE to take on Northeast Community College in a non-conference match-up.
