Lakers get important win away at Hawkeye 6-2

After coming off of two losses the Lakers were looking for a win. As they traveled to Hawkeye Community College for a must win conference match-up, the Lakers came out with the victory 6-2.

As the whistle blew the Lakers started off playing some good soccer, Rian Marques opened the score line up and put the Lakers ahead 1-0. A few minutes after that the Redtails earned a penalty kick and converted on it to tie the game at 1-1 all. In the 30th minute the Redtails took the lead 2-1, twelve minutes after that Fabio Basulado tied the game at 2-2 going into halftime.

The Lakers dominated the 2nd half from the start. Rian got his second goal of the game. Abel Gebrekiros, Armando Garcia, and Nicolas Likulia all each added a goal for the Lakers.

"It's been a strange few weeks of soccer for us. At times today, we were absolutely brilliant and others, we could just not string 3-4 passes together. The second half showed how dangerous we can be going forward and scored 4 very good goals. We must translate the second half performance into a full 90 minutes. We have given ourselves a chance now to qualify for the playoffs. It will be a fascinating encounter against NIACC now on Saturday," said Coach Ben MacRae.

The Lakers will next host NIACC in a conference meeting on Saturday, October 21st.
