Spencer Iowa- Your Iowa Lakes Men's Soccer Team started off its 2018 season with a 3-0 win, as they hosted Cloud County CC T-birds. Cloud came into the game receiving votes for the NJCAA Preseason National Rankings, and defeated the Lakers 3-1 at home last year.
The Lakers got on the scoreboard quick in the 18th minute, with a great finish by Abel Gebrekiros. Abel received a through ball from Julien Paraud and calmly slotted it into the corner of the T-birds goal. Towards the end of the first half the Lakers got on the board again with a goal from Nicolas Likulia who got on the end of a Connor Goldsworthy cross. 2-0 Lakers with 5 minutes left to play in the first half.
The start of the second half lead to more of the same from the Lakers, creating quality chances in front of the T-Bird Goal and constantly forcing turnovers. This would payoff for the Lakers when Jovanny Brown went on a run and crossed the ball, which was headed into their own net by a Cloud County defender 3-0 lakers after 50minutes of play.
Around the 75th minute of play Cloud County would go down to 10 men after a second yellow card was issued to #22 David Smith. Stefan King finished the game with Lakers first Clean-sheet of the season.
