#11 LAKERS DEFEAT #13 MARSHALLTOWN IN 4-3 THRILLER

The Lakers hosted defending Region XI Champions Marshalltown CC. The Lakers came into the match with a seven-game win streak. While the Tigers from Marshalltown where picked to win the conference again this year, and the Lakers where picked to finish second.

The Lakers would find themselves down early, just two minutes in Marshalltown's Kazuki Kimura would find the back of the Laker net. The Lakers would respond quickly with just a minute later Sophomore defender Connor Goldsworthy would level the score with a beautiful left footed free kick.

The rest of the first half would remain even until the last five minutes before halftime, Marshalltown would score two goals in quick succession in the 41st and 44th minute. Making the score heading into halftime 3-1 Marshalltown.

The Lakers would not get back on the scoresheet until twenty minutes into the second half, when Raz Levy was taken down in the Marshalltown box and was awarded a penalty kick. Cameron Weston would step up to the spot and slot the ball home making the score 3-2 Marshalltown. Ten minutes later the Lakers would be awarded another penalty kick when one of the tiger players handballed it in the box. Cameron Weston would step up again and convert the penalty kick, tying the game at 3-3.

Two minutes later the Lakers would go down to 10 men, when freshmen defender Deangello Brown would made a strong two footed tackle resulting in a red card. This was a major blow for the Lakers, all hope seemed to be lost when, Connor Goldsworthy played a long-flighted ball into the box which bounced around and fell to the feet of the Lakers leading goal scorer Jovoney Brown. Who calmly slotted the ball into the Tiger net, giving the Lakers a short handed goal with only six minutes left to play. Four minutes later the Lakers would receive another red card when sophomore Malik Smith would go into a late two footed tackle resulting in another sending off. The Lakers would have to defend their lead with only 9 players on the field for the last three minutes of the game.

The Lakers held off the Tigers to win the game short handed 4-3. ILCC next conference game is away at Region XI Darkhorse Hawkeye CC. Kickoff 7pm.
