Iowa Lakes Opens 2022 Season With Back-to-Back Wins

Iowa Lakes opened their 2022 season with back-to-back games this weekend in Council Bluffs. The Lakers faced off against Otero College on Friday, winning 3-2. Going into the second half down 0-1, the boys from Iowa Lakes fought back, and a goal by freshman Wilmont Manneh in the 70th minute evened the score. Ten minutes later, sophomore Henry Tolbert found the back of the net to take the lead for The Lakers. Two minutes later, Otero scored to make the game 2-2. The Lakers didn't give up hope though, and within the dying seconds of regulation time, Juan Villegas perfectly placed his shot through the crowded penalty area to win the game for Iowa Lakes.
The Lakers returned to the same field at Lewis Central on Saturday to play Illinois Central. Iowa Lakes controlled this match, winning 4-2 comfortably. Sophomore striker Jason Dyer opened his scoring account of the season when he put away a perfectly played ball across the box by Henry Tolbert. The second goal came from sophomore defender Tatsuki Kobayashi with a phenomenal flying header that was assisted by sophomore Lewis Nohar. Henry Tolbert then got on the score sheet himself when he dribbled past the defense and buried his shot into the back of the net. Wilmont Manneh then showed incredible skill to beat the Illinois Central Defense, only to have his shot stopped by their keeper for Jason Dyer to clean up and put the parried ball away.

The Lakers will face Central Community College next at home in Spencer on Saturday, August 27, at 4pm.
