Iowa Lakes Men's Soccer Opens Season With 5-1 win over Northeastern Junior College

Iowa Lakes Men's Soccer opened their 2023 campaign Thursday on their road trip to Colorado. They faced off against Northeastern Junior College in what was a full display of their attacking capabilities. A comfortable 5-1 victory over the Plainsmen got their highly anticipated season off to a positive start.

After a questionable penalty was converted against them early in the first half, The Lakers ramped it up, with first-year player Gabriel Miranda converting his chance past the Northwestern goalkeeper in the 25th minute off the assist from freshman midfield maestro Keiji Sugiera. The scoring continued in the second half, with sophomore Keishon Clarke converting his penalty after sophomore Francis Motsi was taken down in the box as a result of a beautiful display of combination play between the two.

Freshman Ian Campbell made his debut in the second half, putting all of the ICCAC on high alert by scoring a hattrick in the span of five minutes. His first goal came from a wonderfully stricken shot through the legs of a defender that found the bottom corner of the goal. Ian's second came after he was slipped through on goal by Keishon Clarke, rounding the keeper and slotting away his chance from a tight angle. He capped off his three-goal game by converting a second penalty Francis Motsi won for his team.

The Lakers Men's Soccer Team will follow up their impressive opening match of their Colorado trip with a game against Western Nebraska in Sterling, Co on Saturday, August 19th at 1PM MST/ 2PM CST. Watch the match live by downloading the VeoLive app.
