Iowa Lakes Comes Up Short in 2-1 Loss at Northeast

The Lakers traveled to Norfolk, NE, on Wednesday, where they faced off against #1 Northeast CC. The Hawks took the early lead in the first half, only ten minutes into the match. The Lakers were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute of the game when Garbhan Feeney was taken down in the box. Emilio Cazares converted the penalty to even the score.

The Lakers continued to battle in the second half but were called for a handball in the box from a deflection off of a Northeast free-kick on the left side of the box. The Hawks converted the penalty to take the lead 2-1. With less than ten minutes remaining, Keiji Sugiura was taken down in the box, awarding The Lakers their second penalty of the match. Unfortunately, this time, the Northeast keeper came up with a huge save to keep their lead and give them the 2-1 win.

The Lakers are now 6-2-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference play. They will be on the road next week for a double-header, facing Iowa Central on Tuesday at 3pm and Scott on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
