Lakers Round Up Regular Season With 6-1 Win Over WIT

Iowa Lakes Men's Soccer hosted Western Iowa Tech on Wednesday, winning 6-1. The Lakers honored the graduating sophomores on what was their last regular season match of the season. Iowa Lakes is proud and honored to have been called home by these fine young men during their college careers.

The Lakers started the scoring in the 8th minute when Emilio Cazares found the back of the net when he broke through on goal from a pass by Gabriel Miranda. The Lakers created many more quality chances in the first half but failed to convert them.

The second half started with a poor giveaway by The Lakers, which WIT capitalized on to even the score. However, the wake-up call invigorated Iowa Lakes. Lucas Catosso found Keiji Sugiura outside the box, who worked his magic around a couple of defenders to slot the ball away neatly to give The Lakers their lead back. Garbhan Feeney then got on the scoresheet when Keishon Clarke found him on the quality service across goal to make it 3-1. Philmour Virgo then got on the scoresheet, using his strength and skills to hold off defenders and drive the ball low and hard to the back post from a tight angle. Francis Motsi made his awaited return from a hamstring injury and scored in the 77th minute from the service of Ian Campbell to make it 5-1. Flynn Faulkner then got in on the scoring action after being taken down in the box. He stepped up to the spot himself and drove the ball past the WIT keeper to give The Lakers the 6-1 win.

The Lakers concluded regular season play with a record of 11-2-2 and 6-1-1 in conference play. Iowa Lakes will host Dakota County next in the quarterfinal round of conference playoffs. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm on Sunday, October 22nd, in Spencer, IA.
