Laker Swimmers Start Strong at National Meet

Ashley Commens and Juan Briseno started the meet for the Lakers with a pair of lifetime bests in the 50 breaststroke.  Commens' time was good enough to qualify 14th and earn a spot in the consolation finals. Commens improved her time again in the evening and finished in 13th place.

Mavi Valentin swam a strong 1000 freestyle and placed 12th.  

Gabriela Reis and Liz Crewe-Brown both had season-best races in the 200 IM preliminaries, placing 10th and 12th, respectively.  The two then fought it out in the evening finals with Reis out-touching Crewe-Brown and the duo ended up 10th and 11th with significant time drops from the morning  Crewe-Brown was especially impressive dropping 4.45 seconds.

Gabriel Carmona continued the impressive showing in the 200 IM, qualifying tenth in the morniing and then coming from behind in the evening finals to win the consolation final heat with a lifetime best 1:59.04  

The Lady Lakers finished the evening finals with a fourth place finish in the 800 free relay.

The NJCAA National Meet continues with Thursday prelims at 9:30am eastern time.
