Lakers Drop Two

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team dropped two games today in Florida. The Lakers dropped game one to Waubonsee Community College 9-8. Kacie Salazar led the Lakers at the plate going 3-3, while Naomi Tolmachoff took the loss. Madison College had a late game push to beat the Lakers 9-4 in game two. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the loss for the Lakers.

The Lakers started game one strong, scoring one run in the first and two more in the second. Waubonsee took the lead in the fourth inning. The Lakers responded quickly by scoring five runs in the top of the fifth. Unfortunately, Waubonsee scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take the win.

The Lakers were lead by Kacie Salazar, who went 3-3 with two homeruns and four runs batted in. Mary Kelly was 3-4 with a triple, two runs batted in, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Taylor Allen, Lexus Gorospe, and Autumn Phelps each added two hits. Naomi Tolmachoff took the loss for the Lakers, pitching one inning, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. Lexus Gorospe pitched five innings, giving up seven runs, six earned, on ten hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

The Lakers again came out hot in game two with back to back doubles to put them ahead 1-0. Madison quickly responded with two runs of their own on a homerun. The Lakers scored one run in the third and two in the fourth to take the lead 4-2. Madison got seven runs in the final two innings of the game to complete the 9-4 win.

The Lakers were led at the plate by Taylor Allen. She was 2-4 with a run scored. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht was also 2-4 with a run batted in. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the loss for the Lakers, pitching all seven innings. She allowed nine runs on fourteen hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

The Lakers will finish up their Spring Break games tomorrow when they take on Bethel JV and Highland Community College.
