Iowa Lakes Community College softball dropped two games to #4 ranked Des Moines Area Community College. The Lakers committed four errors in the game one 9-1 loss and five in the game two 12-4 loss.
The Lakers held the Bear scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when they allowed six unearned runs on four errors and three hits. They allowed two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on three hits and one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homerun.
The Lakers scored their lone run in the top of the fourth on a Kacie Salazar homerun.
Yasmine Nix took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed nine runs, three earned, on ten hits and struck out one. Kacie Salazar was 1-2 with a solo homerun. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht, Tianna Soto, and Priscilla Lozoya each had a hit for the Lakers.
DMACC came out swinging in game two. They scored five runs in the bottom of the first on three hits and two errors.
The Lakers made it a game, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth. Nix had a one out single before advancing to second on a Salazar walk. Gabby Heckard singled up the middle to score Nix, before her and Salazar advanced on a passed ball. Lozoya hit behind the runners to score Salazar before Kelly drove in the third run of the inning on an infield single.
Iowa Lakes tacked on one more run in the top of the sixth when Moreno-Englebrecht doubled to lead off the inning. She scored on a single to right field by Yasmine Nix.
The Bears finished the game by scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth on five hits and one walk.
Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the loss, allowing eleven runs, four earned, on twelve hits and two walks. Lexus Gorospe allowed one run, zero earned, on one hit. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-3 with two doubles. Gabby Heckard and Yasmine Nix each had two hits for the Lakers as well.
The Lakers are back in action tomorrow when they take on Ellsworth Community College at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
