Lakers Drop Two

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team lost two against Ellsworth Community College on Sunday. Yasmine Nix took the 10-6 game one loss, while Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the 10-0 game two loss.

Ellsworth put runs on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning. They scored four runs on four hits and one walk.

The score remained this way until the third inning when Lexus Gorospe doubled and Taylor Allen went yard to make the score 4-2. Yasmine Nix then hit a two out double before she scored on a Kacie Salazar single to bring the Lakers within one.

The Panthers scored one run in the bottom of the fourth. Hoffman hit a one out triple before scoring on a sacrifice fly. They scored another two runs in the bottom of the fifth on two solo homeruns.

Gabriella Heckard led off the top of the sixth with a single and advanced to second on a Panther error. Priscilla Lozoya then tripled to score Heckard. Mary Kelly used her speed to force the Panthers to commit an error to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Tianna Soto then hit a sacrifice fly to score Lozoya and advance Kelly to second. Lexus Gorospe bunted, which advanced Kelly to third, before she scored on a two out single by Taylor Allen.

The Panthers put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the 10-6 loss.

Taylor Allen led the Lakers at the plate, going 3-4 with three runs batted in and one run scored. Lexus Gorospe and Yasmine Nix each went 2-4 with one run scored. Yasmine Nix took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed seven earned runs on ten hits, one walk, and struck out one. Isabelle Karr allowed three runs, zero earned, on two hits.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in game two. They scored nine runs on two hits, five walks, and one hit by pitch. They scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the second on one hit, a sacrifice fly, and a passed ball.

Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht allowed seven runs, five earned, on one hit, four walks, one hit by pitch, and struck out two. Brooklyn Mickelson allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits, three walks, and struck out two. Mary Kelly, Gabby Heckard, and Yasmine Nix each had a hit in the game.

The Lakers will play again on Tuesday, when they travel to Norfolk, Nebraska to face Northeast Community College.
