#7 NIACC Takes Two From Iowa Lakes

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team lost two games to #7 North Iowa Area Community College. NIACC used the long ball to win 13-3 and 9-1. The Lakers will return home tomorrow, Monday, April 15th, to take on Iowa Central Community College. The game times are set for 2:30 and 4:30.

Game One: NIACC (13)-ILCC (3)

NIACC jumped out to the early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first on a single and homerun.

Iowa Lakes tied the ballgame up in the bottom of the second when Mary Kelly hit a one out single. Kelly then advanced to second on a Trojan error and to third on a passed ball. Madisyn Arechederra walked before both runners scored on a Lexus Gorospe double over the left fielder's head.

The Trojans took the lead again in the third inning when they scored four runs. They did this on two Laker errors, two walks, a single, and a homerun. NIACC hit three solo homeruns in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 9-2.

Yasmine Nix hit a solo homerun in the sixth to give the Lakers a little life. They proceeded to load the bases, before NIACC got Gorospe to ground out to end the threat.

NIACC finished the game scoring four runs on a walk, hit by pitch, single, and homerun.

Yasmine Nix took the loss for the Lakers. She gave up ten runs, seven earned on seven hits, four walks, one hit by pitch, and struck out three. Naomi Tolmachoff allowed three earned runs on two hits and one walk. Yasmine Nix and Mary Kelly were each 2-3. Lexus Gorospe drove in two of the Lakers three runs.

Game Two: NIACC (9)- ILCC (1)

The Trojans again took the lead first, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. They did this on two hits. They scored three more runs in the top of the second. They did this on one Laker error, a dropped third strike, two singles, and a solo homerun.

Mary Kelly was the spark plug for the Lakers at the plate again in game two. She led off the third with a single to the right side. Kelly then stole second and advanced to third on a Gorospe groundball to second. Taylor Allen brought Kelly home on a single to make the score 4-1.

NIACC put two more runs on the scoreboard in their half of the inning on a double and homerun. The Trojans scored their seventh run of the ballgame on a single and Laker error. They scored their final two runs on a two run homerun.

Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the loss. They allowed seven runs, five earned, on nine hits and one walk, while striking out three. Lexus Gorospe allowed two earned runs on two hits and struck out one. Mary Kelly was 1-2 with a run scored and one stolen base.
