#5 Kirkwood Defeats Iowa Lakes

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team dropped two games to #5 Kirkwood Community College. The Eagles defeated the Lakers 10-2 in both game one and game two.

Game One: KCC (10)- ILCC (2)

Iowa Lakes put the first runs up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Taylor Allen hit a two out triple, which was followed by an Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht homerun.

Kirkwood quickly responded in the top of the fourth with seven runs of their own. They did this on five singles, two homeruns, and two walks. The Eagles put up two more runs in the top of the fifth on a walk and a Laker error. They scored their final two runs of the game on one error and a solo homerun in the top of the sixth.

Yasmine Nix took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out two. Lexus Gorospe allowed three runs, zero earned, on two hits and two walks. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht was 1-3 with a homerun and two runs batted in.

Game Two: KCC (10)- ILCC (2)

Kirkwood struck first in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first on two walks and two doubles.

Iowa Lakes got one run back in the bottom of the first. Gorospe led off the game with a single, before advancing to second on an Allen single to left. Back to back sacrifice flies from Moreno-Englebrecht and Nix allowed Gorospe to cross the plate.

The Eagles put up another three runs in the top of the second on a single, double, and homerun. They scored another run in the top of the third on a hit batter and a double to make the score 6-1. Kirkwood scored again in the fourth on a single and double, before putting up two more in the fifth on a hit batter and homerun.

The Lakers never quit, as they scored one run in the bottom of the fifth. Allen hit a one out double to left field. Moreno-Englebrecht walked, before both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Nix again hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which allowed Allen to tag up and give the Lakers their final run of the game.

Kirkwood scored their final run of the game on a walk and two singles.

Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht took the loss for the Lakers. She allowed seven runs, six earned, on eight hits and two walks. Brooklyn Mickelson allowed three earned runs on three hits and one walk. Taylor Allen and Lexus Gorospe were each 2-3 in the game with one run scored. Yasmine Nix was 1-1 with two runs batted in.

The Lakers will travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa on Wednesday, April 24th, to take on Iowa Central Community College. The game times are set for 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
