Lakers Sweep Final Games of the Season

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team swept Northeast Community College Sunday in their final regular season games of the season. The Lakers won game one 8-6 and game two 6-4.

Game One: ILCC (8)- NECC (6)

Northeast came out quickly in game one, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. The Hawks scored four runs on six hits.

The score remained 4-0, until the Lakers put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Madisyn Arechederra had a one out single to left, but was forced out on a ground ball off the bat of Lexus Gorospe. Taylor Allen drew a walk, to put runners at first and second. Yasmine Nix doubled off the right center fence to score both Gorospe and Allen. Kacie Salazar quickly doubled herself to score Nix and bring the Lakers within one. Salazar then scored on a line drive single from Autumn Phelps.

Priscilla Lozoya led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and then stole second. She then scored on a single to center from Arechederra. Gorospe then walked, before both runners scored on an Allen double to right center. Nix followed with a single, which advanced Allen to third. Salazar then grounded into a fielder's choice, which allowed Allen to score.

The Hawks scored the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth. They did this on three hits and one Laker error.

Lexus Gorospe picked up the win for the Lakers. She allowed six earned runs on eleven hits and two walks, while striking out six. Yasmine Nix was 3-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Tianna Soto and Madisyn Arechederra were each 2-3 in the game.

Game Two: ILCC (6)- NECC (4)

The Lakers took the early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Gorospe led off with a walk and advanced to second when Nix was hit by a pitch. Phelps then hit a two out, three run shot over the left field fence to put the Lakers up 3-0.

The Hawks got one run back on a solo homerun in the top of the second.

The score remained 3-1, until Salazar hit a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the fourth.

Northeast tied the ballgame up in the top of the sixth, when they scored three runs on four hits and one walk. The Hawks got the first two Laker batters out, before they put a rally together. Gabby Heckard hit a line drive over the left field fence to put the Lakers up with one swing of the bat. Laurie Custard walked and Lozoya singled to put runners at first and second. Taylor Beane was entered as a pinch runner for Custard and Tianna Soto was entered as a pinch hitter for Arechederra. Soto singled up the middle, to allow Beane to score from second base and put the Lakers up 6-4.

Naomi Tolmachoff quickly got the three Hawks batters to pop out, ground out, and line out to end the game.

Naomi Tolmachoff picked up the win for the Lakers. She did not allow a run or hit in her 1.2 innings of work. Yasmine Nix allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk, while striking out one. Annjelica Moreno-Englebrecht allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk. Autumn Phelps was 2-3 with three runs batted in for the Lakers and Priscilla Lozoya was 2-3 at the plate.

The Lakers will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to start their regional tournament on Thursday, May 9th.
