Six Iowa Lakes Softball Members Selected to All-Region Teams

Six Iowa Lakes Community College softball student athletes were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Softball All-Region teams.

Taylor Allen, outfield, and Yasmine Nix, utility, were both named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st team, Laurie Custard, catcher, Gabby Heckard, outfield, Madisyn Arechedrra, outfield, and Lexus Gorospe, outfield, earned Honorable Mention All-Region honors.

Allen posted an overall batting average of .464. She had 77 hits on the season, including 22 doubles, 4 triples, and 12 homeruns. She drove in 54 of her teammates, while crossing the plate 55 times herself. Allen finished with the fifth highest batting average in the ICCAC. Nix had a batting average of .469 with 60 hits, including 15 doubles and 8 homeruns. She had 35 runs a batted in and 31 runs scored. She also had a 7-12 record and pitched in 106 innings. She allowed 104 earned runs on 178 hits, while striking out 57. Nix finished with the fourth highest batting average in the ICCAC. She is also fifth in the Iowa Lakes record book for career batting average.

Custard played in 34 games this season, compiling a .205 batting average. She was the leader behind the plate for the Lakers, becoming the voice of the defense. Heckard played in 39 games this season while posting a .348 batting average. Heckard had 32 hits, including 8 doubles, and 4 homeruns. Arechedrra finished the season with a .339 batting average. She had 40 hits in her 118 at bats from the nine spot and scored 29 times. Gorospe played in 50 games this season, compiling a .314 batting average. Gorospe had 49 hits, including 9 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 homeruns. She also had a 4-2 record in the circle, where she pitching 73.2 innings and struck out 56 batters.

"I am very proud of these six young ladies for being named to one of the All-Region teams. This conference is filled with tremendous athletes and to be named as one of the elite, it is a great honor for them. Although these six athletes were the ones recognized, these awards go to their teammates as well. The success of one, is the success of the entire teams handwork and dedication."

The Lakers ended their season with an overall record of 17-35 and 8-20 record in conference.
