Chase Throws No-Hitter

Iowa Lakes Softball player, Lexi Chase, threw her first career no-hitter to earn the 8-0 six inning win over #15 Iowa Central Community College. The Lakers then dropped game two 10-6. Iowa Lakes is now 8-10 overall and 8-8 in conference.

Game One: ILCC 8, ICCC 0 (6 innings)

Iowa Lakes scored in every inning to take game one over the Tritons. Chase led off the bottom of the first with a walk, which was followed by a Kailey Maksim base on balls as well. With one out, Kaitlin Roundy then singled to left to load up the bases. Kamryn Buntrock wore a high and in pitch on her arm to put the Lakers up 1-0. Allie McCabe followed with a bunt single that was then thrown over the catcher's head to score both Maksim and Roundy and put the Lakers up 3-0.

The Lakers scored two in the second on a single from Chase and homerun by Maksim.

Chase assisted in every out the first time through the lineup. She got the first six Triton batters to strike out before seven and eight hit a ground ball to her in the circle and nine struck out.

McCabe provided the Lakers only run in the third on a solo homerun over the left field fence. Maksim hit her second homerun of the game in the bottom of the fourth to put the Lakers up 7-0.

The final run came in the bottom of the sixth when Chase hit a one out double to left. She was advanced to third on a ground out from Maksim and drove home on a single from Roundy to complete the six inning 8-0 victory.

In the circle, Chase faced 20 batters in six innings. She allowed zero hits and had one walk with twelve strikeouts. Chase now has a record of 8-2 on the season. Kailey Maksim led the Lakers going 2-3 with two homeruns, three runs batted in and three runs scored. Allie McCabe and Lexi Chase were also 2-3 with three runs scored.

 

Game Two: ICCC 10, ILCC 4

The Lakers again took a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Chase and Maksim again led off with walks and then Chase scored on a line drive to right center from Eliya Johnson. Roundy with a ground out to second to score Maksim.

Chase, who started game two, kept the Tritons off the board until the top of the third. They scored two runs on three hits and one walk.

The score remained 2-2, until Iowa Central put up one run in the fifth and sixth to give themselves a 4-2 lead.

The Lakers were not done yet though, tying up the score in the bottom of the sixth. Chase led off the inning with a single to right. Johnson grounded into a fielder's choice, forcing Chase out at second. Johnson advanced to second on a two out single from Roundy. With Madison Hough now running at second, the Lakers had runners at first and second with two outs. Buntrock came up clutch, hitting a triple to right field, scoring both Hough and Roundy.

Unfortunately, Iowa Central won the most important inning of the game, putting up six runs in the top of the seventh. They did this on five hits, including two homeruns, one walk, one hit by pitch, and two wild pitches.

Eliya Johnson took the loss for the Lakers, allowing eight earned runs in three innings. She gave up seven hits and two walks. Johnson hit two Triton hitters, while striking out two. Lexi Chase pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and striking out six.

At the plate, Buntrock led the Lakers going 2-3 with two runs scored. Roundy, Chase, and Johnson each added a hit of their own.

The Lakers will travel to Burlington, Iowa this weekend to take on Division 1 Southeastern Community College. Game times on Saturday are 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
