Lakers Split with Bobcats

The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team went 1-1 on their final day of a four-game series with Southeast Community College. Iowa Lakes dropped game 11-6 before rallying back to win game two 11-9. The Lakers are now 5-1 on the season.

GAME 1: 11 (SCC), 6 (ILCC)  

Iowa Lakes was able to score in the first inning when Abby Burgess led off the game with a double and then scored on a Myla Murphy single that was then overthrown to allow Burgess to score. Murphy was able to advance to third on the same error. She then quickly scampered home on a ball off the bat by Katelyn Hamm. The Bobcats countered with one run of their own on three walks and a single.

Ally Davis led off the first with a single and then advanced to third on two groundouts. She then crossed the plate on a wild pitch by Southeast. Southeast took the lead in the second inning when they scored four runs on three walks, two doubles, and a homerun.

Southeast added to their lead by scoring five runs in the third on three walks, one single, one double, and one homerun.

The Lakers showed some fight in the sixth, putting up two runs. Doubles by Davis, Alexis Cullinane, and Brooklyn Bode scored both runs. The Bobcats got their final run of the game in their half of the inning with a double and an RBI.

Tayor Larson hit a solo homerun in the seventh inning to score the Lakers final run.

Alexis Cullinane, Ally Davis, Myla Murphy, and Abby Burgess each had two hits for the Lakers. Jolene Jordahl took the loss for the Lakers, pitching two innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits, six walks, and three strikeouts. Tatiyana Schack threw four innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits, four walks, and two strikeouts.

GAME 2: 11 (ILCC), 9 (SCC)

Southeast continued their hot hitting, scoring four runs in the first inning. This was on one walk, one single, one double, one homerun, and one sacrifice fly.

Iowa Lakes got one run when Macy Alderson walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout from Cullinane. Davis then executed a squeeze to score Alderson from third.

The Lakers scored another run in the third when Burgess got to second on a Southeast error. She then scored on a single from Hamm. The Bobcats put up another four spot in their half of the inning on one walk, three hits, and one Laker error.

Alderson led off the fourth with a solo homerun. Cullinane followed with a single and a Madison Goosmann double put two runners in scoring position. Bode grounded out to second to push one runner across.

With the score now 8-4, the Lakers tied things up in the top of the fifth. Alyvia Jensen singled and then advanced to third on Larson's double to centerfield. Alderson followed with a double of her own to score both runners and bring the Lakers within two runs. Goosmann then singled to left, scoring Alderson. She then advanced to second on Alayna Leighton's single and scored on Bode's single. Southeast retook the lead on two singles.

Burgess led off the sixth with a double and advanced to third on Avery Somers single. Katelyn Hamm came back into the game to run for Somers and quickly stole second base. Larson singled up the middle to score both runners and give the Lakers a 10-9 lead.

Iowa Lakes scored their final run of the game when Leighton singled and then stole second and third. She then crossed the plate on a Bode sacrifice fly to left.

Macy Alderson led the Lakers at the plate in game two. She went 2-3 with one walk, three runs scored, and three runs batted in. Alayna Leighton, Madison Goosmann, Alexis Cullinane, Taylor Larson, and Katelyn Hamm each had multi-hit games for the Lakers. Jolene Jordahl picked up the win in the circle for the Lakers. She pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Taylor Larson threw 2.2 innings, allowing eight runs,

The Lakers will travel to Cloud County Community College to play their final double header of the weekend. These games will take place at 12:00 and 2:00 PM on March 3rd.
