Maddy Derochie Wins Silver Medal at State Trapshoot

Iowa Lakes freshman Maddy Derochie from Jefferson, SD shot 194x200 to tie Iowa Central's Allison Jensen for the Iowa SCTP/DNR  women's 16 yard Trap Championship in Cedar Falls, IA on Saturday, April 23, 2022.   After a one round shoot-off (23 to 21) Derochie took the silver medal.

Derochie shot her first ever 25x25 in the morning ending with 95x100, in the afternoon she missed a lone target on the first trap and ran the last 75 straight for a 99x100.

In the team competition Iowa Lakes finished in 8th place with 942x1000.The Lakers top 5 shooters were: Maddy Derochie 194, Keegan Oettinger 191, Jaron Cooper 190, Joshua Lauck 184, and Tim Konfrst 183. The wind was strong and gusty but the Lakers shot several perfect rounds including: Maddy Derochie 25x25 and 75x75, Jaron Cooper 25x25 and 50x50, Keegan Oettinger two 25x25, Gracie Ziemer 25x25, Joshua Lauck 25x25, and Logan Studer 25x25. 

Derochie's silver medal was the first medal an Iowa Lakes shooter earned at the Iowa State SCTP/DNR College Championship.  Coach Kalsow said " The Sports Shooting Team members worked hard this year, and with several freshmen returning and some new recruits, we will be ready for the 2022-2223 season."
