Lakers place 4th in American Trap Doubles and 6th in American Trap Singles at the 2023 ACUI College Nationals

Nine athletes from the Iowa Lakes Sports Shooting Team traveled to San Antonio, TX to compete in the two trap events. The ACUI/SCTP College National Shoot was held at the National Shooting Complex from March 21-25, 2023. This year was the 2nd largest College Nationals ever held with 741 athletes from 73 teams competing in the American Trap Singles Event.

This year was the Lakers' first time to enter the American Doubles Trap event. They finished in 4th place in Division 4 which is for Community Colleges and Trade Schools. The Lakers broke 381x 500 targets, the squad included Wyatt Schwenker, 80;  Hunter Thilges, 79; Cameron Fick, 76; Maddy Derochie, 74; and Kendall Umscheid, 72.

This year was the second time the Lakers competed in the American Singles Trap event at Nationals. Last year they shot 455x500 and tied for 9th place. This year they improved by 11 targets to 466x500 and moved up to 6th place in division 4. The squad included Wyatt Schwenker, 98; Kendall Umscheid, 95; Gracie Ziemer, 92; Aaron Olson, 91; and Cameron Fick, 90.

Three Laker Ladies including Gracie Ziemer, Kendall Umscheid, and Mackenzie Schnetzer all shot perfect 25x25 and Wyatt Schwenker missed 2 targets on the first trap and then ran 75x75 to finish with 98. Wyatt's 98x100 tied him for 38th place out of 584 men in the Singles Trap event.

Head Coach Kalsow said, " Because of all the snow, our team was not able to practice at all before we got to San Antonio. Even with only a few hours of practice on Wednesday, we finished just 1 place out of the 3rd place team award in Trap Doubles and improved our Trap Singles over last year's Nationals."
