Iowa Lakes Community College Women's basketball team spent the afternoon at Camp Foster yesterday in Spirit Lake, IA. The team was involved in a variety of activities that were led by the Camp Counselors. All of the activities throughout the afternoon revolved around team building and communication skills. The team learned how to work together, communicate amongst one another, and how to become leaders in difficult situations. The Lakers also had the opportunity to enjoy rock climbing and zip lining with the Iowa Lakes Women's softball team at the end of the day.
Freshman Marisela Perez had this to say about her experience at Camp Foster "teams can accomplish more than individuals can. I would never be able to climb up a tree and zip line on my own. I'm way too afraid to fall from high places. At Camp Foster, when I looked down from the tree, I was ready to quit. Yet my teammates were right there to pick me up. They were my strength when I was weak. They were also my courage when I was scared. Now I know that's what they will be all season long. When someone falls or needs an extra push, we will be there for each other and because of that we will be a tough competitor to go against."
Sophomore Shai'anye Wesley had this to say about her second experience at Camp Foster, "a team that goes to war together, stays together. I felt that my team was ready for any and every problem that was thrown our way during the activities. There were many times when we were let down but we stay together; as one. We have good communication and that is going to take us far on the court as a team. I enjoyed all the games and laughs. I truly see a good season ahead of us!"
As the Lakers prepare to take on their pre-season workouts this coming Monday, the afternoon spent at Camp Foster was very enjoyable and refreshing for the team. Official practice starts October 1st for the Lakers and begin play at a JUCO Jamboree on October 8th in Cedar Falls, IA.
