Wassink commits to Gustavus Adolphus

Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball player, Mia Wassink has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Gustavus Adolphus College, a Division III institution located in Saint Peter, Minnesota. The Gustavus women's basketball team is coming off a historic season finishing 24-7 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen.

Throughout Mia's career at Iowa Lakes, she was named 1st Team All-Region in the ICCAC Conference both her freshmen and sophomore seasons. Mia also earned ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors three times during her collegiate career at Iowa Lakes.  Mia averaged 15.3 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. As a Laker, Mia scored 810 points and grabbed 553 rebounds. Mia was named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region Team in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.

Mia graduated in 2016 from Edgerton Public High School located in Edgerton, MN. While attending Edgerton Public High School, Mia was named All-Conference Team in 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons. Mia was also named All-Area Team while being awarded the National Scholar Athlete Award for the 2015-2016 season. Mia also scored 1,057 points and earned 750 rebounds throughout her high school career at Edgerton Public High School.

"I am extremely happy for Mia. I am thankful for the opportunity to have coached Mia the past two years.  Mia has given so much to the Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball program and I am forever thankful for that. Mia has been a model for what the future of Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball will be built on.  I think Gustavus will be a great fit for her. They have a very good program and I know Coach Kelly and Coach Wolfe  will take very good care of her," said Coach Martin.

"Over the past two-years, I've been blessed with tremendous support from the Iowa Lakes community including my professors, administration, coaches, athletic trainers and my amazing teammates. I cannot thank everyone enough for the support and opportunity that Iowa Lakes gave me. I'm excited for my next journey in life at Gustavus to continue my collegiate basketball career while earning my degree," commented Wassink.
