Iowa Lakes Wassink named an NJCAA All-American

Iowa Lakes women's basketball player Mia Wassink was named to the NJCAA All-American Third Team this season. She is one of three players from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II to receive this honor.

Wassink lead the conference with 9.1 rebounds per game, grabbing 203 defensive rebounds on the season; good for 15th-most in the NJCAA Division II.  Mia averaged 15.3 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line.

In addition to Wassink's NJCAA All-American Third Team honors, she has earned numerous honors throughout her career at Iowa Lakes: ICCAC 1st Team All-Region both freshman and sophomore years as well as ICCAC Academic All-Region both freshman and sophomore years.  Wassink was named ICCAC athlete of the week four times during her collegiate career at Iowa Lakes.

"I was flabbergasted when Coach Martin informed me about being named to the NJCAA All-American 3rd Team," said Wassink. "I honestly didn't know what to think at first but I do know that I wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything without the support from my family, coaches and teammates. It's truly an honor."

"I am so proud of Mia and all she accomplished in her time at Iowa Lakes," said Coach Martin. "Mia is an incredible kid with an unbelievable work ethic; she is a coach's dream. I really enjoyed coaching Mia for two years and will miss this kid. She has been a big part of the Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball Program for two years and has really helped to improve the culture. I am excited to see what the future holds for Mia."
