Anjanea Simms signs with Peru State

Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball player, Anjanea Simms, signed her letter of intent to continue her collegiate career at Peru State, a NAIA level institution located in Peru, Ne.

Anjanea graduated from Iowa Lakes in May with her liberal arts degree. Throughout Anjanea's career at Iowa Lakes, she earned 1st Team All-Region Academic honors for the Fall semester. Anjanea appeared in 29 games while averaging 6.3 points per game. She also was the team's second leading rebounder for Iowa Lakes, averaging 7.3 rebounds per game, grabbing 211 rebounds for the season; 122 of those being defensive boards.

Anjanea, a 5'8" forward, from Saint Louis, Mo graduated from Affton High School in 2015. While attending, Affton High School Anjanea was a 4-year varsity team member while earning most valuable player and scholastic player of the week honors.

"I chose Iowa Lakes because of the environment," commented Simms. "Choosing here made me feel as though I was putting myself in a situation where I couldn't fail no matter what; that was the vibe I received. Also because of the coaches; coming off of taking a year off of basketball, this was a huge chance to take on me. They trusted me and believed in me even when I questioned myself. Looking back, leaving home and coming to Iowa Lakes was one of the best decisions I've made thus far. In just one year, I've created important relationships that I will cherish forever and learned a lot that I can take with me in life. It was simply home away from home."

"Extremely proud of Anjanea and her growth this year," commented head coach Ashley Martin. "Anjanea has worked so hard to get to where she is today and I am so proud of her. She is a special player in the fact that she did all the little things that most players don't want to do. She is one of the best offensive rebounders I've coached and a very unselfish player. Anjanea has a great opportunity at Peru State and I am excited to see what the future holds for her."

"In my next journey, I searched high and low for another Iowa Lakes," commented Simms. I got that and then some on my visit to Peru State. The staff, teachers, and future teammates made me feel welcomed. I can't exactly predict the future but it felt good signing to be a student athlete there. I'm extremely excited for my upcoming journey."
