The Lakers came from behind to defeat Southeastern Community College at home Saturday afternoon 69-67.  The Lakers moved to 17-4 on the season and 5-2 in conference play with the win.

The Lakers were led by Breanna Wendland with 26 points and 8 assists.  Beth Rehse contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds to complete the double-double and Sassy Coleman chipped in 10 points.

Iowa Lakes got out to a quick start, gaining a 10-1 lead over the Blackhawks.  Southeastern rallied, however, and was able to cut the lead to seven at the end of the first, 14-7.

Southeastern then dominated the 2nd quarter.  The Blackhawks scored nine field goals in the quarter, five of them three-pointers.  Defensively they held the Lakers to just four field goals to take a 32-26 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was much more balanced, with Southeastern scoring 21 and Iowa Lakes 18 in the period.  The Lakers faced their largest deficit of the game during the period at 10.

Iowa Lakes entered the fourth quarter down nine but quickly got to work.  Their first lead since midway through the second quarter came on a 3 point basket from Sam Hagedorn to go up 58-57.  The last six minutes were a battle, with four more lead changes and a tied game at 61 with 1:14 left to play.  Both teams had opportunities to score from the free throw line and Iowa Lakes was able to capitalize, making three free throws in the last minute.  That, combined with a defensive stop and a 1 of 2 free throw trip for Southeastern gave Iowa Lakes the game.

"Incredible win by our team today. Our kids kept believing and fighting. I thought we showed grit and toughness in the 2nd half," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

The Lakers return to action Wednesday night as they travel to Mason City to play ninth ranked NIACC.  Their next home game is Saturday, February 2, when they host Iowa Central Community College.
