Lakers Win in Season Opener

Lakers Win in Season Opener

The Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball team defeated Dordt JV 77-67. The Lakers were led by sophomore Safiyer Colemen with 24 points, Beth Rehse with 20 points, and Breanna Wendland added 11 points.

The Lakers came out firing scoring 24 points in the first quarter. Many Lakers contributed; three different players scored a three point field goal during the quarter. The offensive flurry resulted in a seven point lead at the quarter break. The second quarter was more evenly matched, but the Lakers took a four point lead into halftime.

The Defenders started the 3rd quarter strong tying the game at 45 mid way through the quarter. But the Lakers responded ending the quarter on a 17-4 run. The deficit was too great for the Defenders to overcome in the 4th quarter.

"Great way to start the season off, very proud of the team. I thought our girls played hard tonight and we had some girls step up. I'm excited to see how we can continue to improve," commented Coach Martin.

The Lakers are 1-0 on the season and 0-0 in conference play. The Lakers return to action this Friday and Saturday, November 8th and 9th when they travel to Norfolk, NE to take on Northeast Community College and Cloud County Community College.
