Four Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Members Selected to All-Region Teams

Four Iowa Lakes Community College women's basketball athletes were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Women's Basketball All-Region teams.

Breanna Wendland was named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st team, Shareece Smith and Safiyer Coleman were both named to 2nd team and Tyler Pacheco was named to 3rd team.  

Breanna Wendland, a sophomore from Richfield, MN led the team in scoring this year. Wendland averaged 14.7 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.  Wendland was 4th overall in the conference in points per game and 3rd overall in field goal percentage. Wendland led the team in field goal percentage shooting 51.4% on the season. Wendland was named ICCAC Player of the Week for the week of December 9th. Wendland finished her career with 937 points and 314 rebounds.

"Bre was tougher than nails in her two years at Iowa Lakes. She gave us a strong defensive presence guarding the other team's best player a lot of the time. She can really attack the rim and is a dynamic scorer. Her ability to run the floor and score in transition really helped our team. ," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

Shareece Smith, a sophomore from Fort Dodge, IA, was second on the team in scoring and led the team in rebounds this year by averaging 12.9 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. Smith was 4th overall in the conference in 3 point percentage at 35.9%. Smith was named Player of the Week for the week of November 25th. Smith finished her career with 801 points and 446 rebounds.

"Shareece was a great point guard for our program the last two years. She attacked presses and could get us in an offense. She can really shoot it and is very quick. She rebounds the ball really well and gave us toughness as a defender," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

Safiyer Coleman, a sophomore from Denver, CO, averaged 9.6 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game. Coleman shot 39.4% from the field. Coleman finished her career with 525 points and 328 rebounds.

"Sassy gave us a great presence on the block. She was a tough match up in that she could score on the block, face up, and shoot if from the perimeter. She worked hard on her game to develop an outside shot," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

Tyler Pacheco, a sophomore from Holbrook, AZ, averaged 6.2 points per game. Tyler shot 27.6% from the 3 point line.

"Tyler was our most improved player from last season. She gave us a 3 point threat on the perimeter and consistency. So proud of all her work and commitment to improving everyday," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

The Laker women ended their season with an overall record of 19-11 and 9-7 record in conference.
