Iowa Lakes Wrestling Prepares for Their 2017-2018 Season

With several returners from last year's team, including All-Americans Isaiah Cox (184) and Anthony Maia (149), the expectations are high for this year's squad.  There will be a lot of new faces as well coming in and competing for line up spots for the Lakers Wrestling program which should make the room a lot of fun this season.  The group of sophomores for the Lakers provide solid leadership for the team.  The team has been working hard since arriving on campus, making it a successful preseason for the wrestling program.

"We have gotten stronger in the weight room and the first weeks of practice reflect the hard work put in during the preseason.  Our freshman have responded well to the leadership from the returners which has allowed for quick growth. Our coaching staff see's that there are a lot of guys capable of stepping up so that anticipation of watching these young men do that is really exciting" said Coach Alesch.

The Lakers schedule starts off with the RCTC Open in Rochester, MN on Nov. 4th.  The Lakers have 3 home duals this season starting off with NIACC on Nov. 29th at 7 pm.  After the Holiday break in December, the Lakers begin with a trip to the National Dual Championships to start the 2nd half of their season which will take place in Fort Wayne, IN.  The Lakers will compete in the regional tournament which is hosted by Iowa Central CC on February 11th at 10 am. The regional tournament is then followed by the National Championships which is held in Council Bluffs at the MidAmerican Center for the 3rd straight year, February 23rd and 24th.
